Hello, I’m Melinda and I am an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker (AASW), Registered Clinical Counsellor (PACFA) and Registered Counsellor Level 4 (ACA) with almost two decades of experience providing therapeutic support in various roles, and I have been in solo private practice since 2016.
I am an Accredited Supervisor and I am passionate about supporting like-minded counsellors and social workers, and I am particularly interested in working with those who are early in their counselling career and finding their feet.
If you’re looking for someone to provide support, guidance and share knowledge, I would be very happy to work with you. I am especially passionate about helping practitioners to manage boundaries and avoid burnout, which is a very real risk in this profession.
My counselling practice is focused on providing therapeutic support to adults who are struggling with past or present trauma related difficulties. I work from a TRAUMA-INFORMED, RELATIONAL APPROACH using a blend of parts, mindfulness and somatic focussed interventions. I have trained and studied a variety of therapeutic models, but the ones I tend to lean towards the most are;
- Parts approach (Internal Family Systems/Structural Dissociation informed)
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (with a trauma/somatic focus)
- Brainspotting (Phase 2)
- Somatic focussed, ‘bottom up‘ approach (Sensorimotor Psychotherapy informed)
I am also strongly influenced by: attachment, polyvagal, feminist, intersectionality, non-pathologising, strengths and person-Centred frameworks.
I am a lifelong learner!
In supervision with me, I aim to offer a safe, non-judgmental and supportive supervision space, where you can reflect, learn, and grow as a practitioner in a way that is suited to your needs.
Please note when you are considering working with me that I do NOT provide counselling to children or couples.
I am an Approved Counsellor for NSW Victims Services, provide Medicare rebates with Mental Health Care Plans, and occasionally provide counselling under NDIS (self managed and plan managed) and Employee Assistance Programs (EAP).
I am approved to provide Clinical Supervision to counsellors registered with
I can also provide external supervision for those who are employed within an organisation and not required to be registered with an association. Please don’t hesitate to ask me about this to see if we would be a good fit.
